Child Day Care
US Census 2000 data show an increase in children under age 16 with working parents. In Connecticut, nearly 62% of kids under 6 had both parents working, a 6% increase in 10 years. While many parents and guardians turn to friends and family to care for their children, a quality child care facility is often a popular option.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) Community Based Regulation Section is responsible for licensing child day care facilities. Child day care groups and centers in our district are routinely inspected to assure compliance with elements of the statues and regulations of the Connecticut DPH Child Day Care Licensing Program. As of September 2, 2005, 64 child day care groups and centers have been inspected by FVHD. During a typical inspection, FVHD inspectors check for the following:
